Sustainability as a Standard at Bennett Design

As the champions of Sustainability at Bennett Design, Managing Director of Operations, Andrea Fraser, and Renee Adamkowski, Sustainable Design Lead, reveal their proprietary Bennett Design Pure Design™ program and their mandate of making sustainability standard on every interior design project.
Making Sustainability Standard: The Value of Pure Design
In today’s-built environment, conscientious design is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity. What if creating responsible, sustainable spaces didn’t have to mean added complexity, inflated costs, or navigating certification red tape? At Bennett Design, we believe sustainability and wellness should be seamlessly integrated into every project, not treated as an optional add-on. That’s why we developed Bennett Pure Design™, a program that makes sustainability accessible, practical, and impactful.
What is Pure Design?
Bennett Pure Design™ is our proprietary in-house sustainability and wellness platform. It integrates environmental goals into the interior design process with the same precision and care we are known for with our project work. This approach allows us to dig deeper into every design decision, ensuring that sustainability is not just a checkbox but a meaningful part of the process.
Why Pure Design?
Traditional certification systems, while valuable, don’t always fit every space or organization. They can be rigid, costly, and sometimes fail to address the unique needs of a project. Pure Design was developed to fill these gaps, offering a flexible, responsive, and practical path to sustainability and wellness. It’s a program tailored to each client, their goals, and their space, ensuring that environmental responsibility is both achievable and impactful.
Foundations for Sustainable Success
The Pure Design program addresses sustainability through seven key classifications with 65+ categories. Each category is designed to encourage thoughtful, effective approaches to sustainability and wellness. The goals within these categories are complex, but the system for understanding, tracking, and reporting progress has been streamlined for simplicity and clarity.
This approach ensures that sustainability is not about perfection but about progress. It empowers teams to collaborate, innovate, and make informed decisions that maximize environmental benefits without overcomplicating the process.
A Strategy for Growth and Adaptation
In an industry that’s constantly evolving, a sustainability strategy with growth potential is essential. The Pure Design program embraces sustainability as a process of adaptation. Its agility and flexibility allow us to address the specific nuances of each client, project, or site, ensuring that environmental initiatives are maximized in ways that traditional certification systems often cannot.
By working collaboratively with our clients, we deliver acute expertise while empowering them to influence and direct their sustainability goals. This partnership approach ensures that every project is not only environmentally responsible but also aligned with the client’s unique vision and needs.

A Powerful Communication Tool
Every Bennett Pure Design™ project culminates in a tangible tracking report; a clear, visual summary of the environmental accomplishments achieved throughout the design process. This report is an invaluable tool for stakeholders, providing insights into the project’s successes, challenges, and next steps.
Whether it’s used for board-level updates, internal ESG reporting, external communications, or legacy documentation, the tracking report ensures that sustainability efforts are transparent, measurable, and impactful. Best of all, this high-value resource is included at no extra cost, making it an essential asset for any project.
Sustainability as Standard, Not an Upsell
At Bennett Design, we believe sustainability should be accessible, collaborative, and embedded in every interior we create. We design spaces that don’t just look good, they feel good, work better, and tread lighter on the planet.
We dig deeper to ensure that every project reflects our commitment to creating healthier, more sustainable spaces. It’s not just about meeting today’s needs but about building a better future for everyone.
