Purpose
The Project Team Lead Designer is a project lifecycle expert responsible for leading, designing, directing, and coordinating large or multi-site interior design projects. This role delivers unique solutions for various clients and business needs while championing Bennett Design’s interior design project processes—Discover, Plan, Implement, Monitor, and Close, including Pure Design™—with the high level of detail and documentation that our firm is known for.
As a role model, the Project Team Lead Designer mentors and directs a team while effectively managing client requests and relationships.
This position reports to the Design Manager.
Role and Responsibilities
Project Work
-
Lead the design and execution of interior design projects from proposal through construction phase and closeout.

Manage multiple projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.

Facilitate project kick-off meetings and define project objectives, charters, and work plans.

Provide design direction and support to team members to achieve project goals.

Ensure AutoCAD drawings are site accurate and aligned with BDA standards.

Generate and revise drawing packages, construction documents, and renderings.

Coordinate with consultants, architects, engineers, and trade partners.

Participate in client meetings and design presentations.

Work through all phases of the Project Plan methodology (Discover, Plan, Implement, Monitor, and Close).
Contract Management & Execution

Assign and oversee project tasks according to the Project Plan.

Track project budgets, deliverables, and milestones.

Manage subcontractor coordination and ensure project scope is adhered to.

Identify and issue additional service requests (ASRs) when necessary.

Provide weekly billing and status updates to Design Manager and Finance.

Ensure risk management strategies are applied throughout the project lifecycle.

Develop a photo shoot strategy and participate in project feedback meetings.
Client Relationship Management

Manage client expectations, communicate project timelines, and serve as a primary point of contact for escalated matters.
Quality Assurance & Compliance

Review design development, construction documents, and shop drawings for accuracy and integrity.

Ensure Building Code compliance and alignment with industry regulations.
People Management
-
Mentor and audit the work of project team members for accuracy, consistency, and quality.

Support professional development, recognizing and rewarding exceptional work.

Assist with the creation and execution of Individual Performance Plans (IDP) for team members.
Organizational Support

Act as an ambassador for BDA culture and core values.

Support proposal development, Request for Proposal (RFP) walkthroughs, and additional service requests.

Participate in the Student Internship Program and recruitment activities.

Attend all mandatory training, company meetings, and professional development sessions.
Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications
Education & Certifications
-
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Interior Design from a recognized accredited college or university.

NCIDQ Certification (or actively pursuing).
-
ARIDO and IDC membership in good standing.
Technical Skills & Industry Knowledge

Advanced knowledge of building codes, industry laws, and regulations.

Expertise in AutoCAD, SketchUp/Vray, and Microsoft Office applications.

Strong understanding of project budgeting, tendering, and workplace strategy.
Experience & Competencies
-
Minimum 8 years of experience in interior design.

Ability to motivate and mentor teams, manage conflicts, and build strong client relationships.

Skilled in risk management, scheduling, budgeting, and contract management.

Strong strategic thinking and ability to align project goals with resources.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
-
Hybrid work model—remote work permitted in accordance with company policies.
-
Occasional travel required for site visits, site measures, and walkthroughs across Ontario and Canada.

Must wear appropriate safety gear when visiting construction sites.

This role involves sedentary work, requiring prolonged sitting or standing.
