KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Proposal Management & Business Development Support

 

​The Senior Designer/Project Lead Designer assumes a leadership role in projects varying in size, quantity and complexity based on skill and experience. This role continues to be a champion of Bennett Design interior design project processes – Discover, Plan, Implement, Monitor and Close, including Pure Design™ – with the high level of detail and documentation that our firm is known for. This role is critical in developing other team members through training, coaching and providing ongoing learning opportunities.

 

All Team Project Work

 

  • Design and execute interior design projects varying in complexity from proposal through concept and development, construction phase and close out

  • Coordinate Engineering groups (mechanical, electrical, communications and structural)

 

Individual Project Work

 

  • Source finishes, equipment and requesting quotes from manufacturers and suppliers

  • Responsible for preparing and issuing off renderings, initial and final

  • Generate drawing packages

  • Coordinate with outside consultants, architects, engineers and trade partners

  • Participate in client meetings and design presentations

Contract Management

 

  • Assist with assigning project work according to plan

  • Perform subcontractor coordination

  • Complete photo shoots

  • Manage construction schedules, deliverables and milestones as per contract

  • Assist with additional service requests (ASRs)

  • Assist with the preparation of all change notices and instructions, shop drawing reviews, deficient reviews and reporting

 

Documentation and Process Quality Assurance
 

  • Review design development, construction documents and shop drawings for content accuracy and overall design integrity

  • Maintain compliance with Building Code

  • Ensure work is consistent with regulations, procedures, plans, drawings and specifications

  • Practice Risk Management as it relates to managing design projects

People Management

  • Audit the work of project team members for accuracy, consistency and quality

  • Mentor junior/intermediate designers and assist in developing a culture for professional advancement, recognition and reward for exceptional work

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Interior Design from a recognized accredited College or University

  • National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ)

  • Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario (ARIDO) membership in good standing

  • Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) membership

  • Proficient in building code requirements, laws, standards and regulations as it relates to project work, with the ability to interpret and apply

  • Proficient in the interior design process from Discovery to Project Close Out phases

  • Adept in various products and materials and their use and application for project work

  • Proficient in building systems

  • Familiar with project monitoring, budgeting and tendering

  • Familiar with various types of engineering and how to coordinate efforts

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in interior design

 

Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

 

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or SketchUp/Vray and all Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to successfully prepare a schedule for Design projects

  • Accountable to deadlines and deliverables

  • Ability to incorporate a workplace strategy approach to projects

  • Organize and schedule tasks effectively and can effectively handle several tasks and problems at once

  • Open to different and new ways of doing things and has a willingness to modify one’s preferred way of doing things

  • Ability to anticipate and recognize problems and gather information and notifies the Team Lead/Senior Team Lead of problems in a timely manner

  • Adapt well to changing priorities, deadlines and directions

  • Exercise a professional approach with others using all appropriate tools of communication

POSITION DETAILS

 

Travel Requirements: In this role you are required to occasionally travel to the client site for site visits, site measures, and deficiency walk-throughs. Travel includes to and from job sites through the province of Ontario and throughout Canada.
