Introduction

SodaStream, a leading manufacturer of at-home carbonated beverage machines, sought to optimize the performance of their new office space at 325A Annagem Blvd in Mississauga. The company aimed to create a workplace that better supported employee needs, encouraged collaboration, and integrated sustainable technology solutions. Leadership also emphasized the importance of designing an agile space that could adapt to company growth and attract top talent.

Opportunity

SodaStream faced several workplace challenges in their former office space, including employee concerns about privacy, noise levels, overall clutter and workspace aesthetics. While teamwork and collaboration were core strengths of the company culture, employees expressed a need for improved meeting spaces and a more structured and organized environment to balance collaboration with individual focus. Additionally, leadership recognized the need for a well-defined technology strategy to support industry standards and facilitate communication.

Our Approach

Bennett Design conducted a comprehensive workplace strategy analysis using our proprietary DIG™ Workplace Strategy program. Through a visioning session with executives, manager questionnaires, an employee survey and a half-day ideation focus group, we gathered valuable insights into SodaStream’s workspace challenges and opportunities. The results highlighted key priorities such as improving environmental challenges like natural light, noise control, air quality, and creating a variety of team spaces to reduce compartmentalization. Activity-based work settings, ergonomic enhancements, and digital connectivity solutions were incorporated to enable seamless transitions between remote and in-office work.

Outcome

Our recommendations provided SodaStream with a strategic roadmap to create a more functional and engaging workplace. By incorporating feedback from employees and leadership, the new space was designed to enhance connection while also addressing the need for focus areas, workspace improvements, and morale-boosting initiatives. The insights from this process will guide long-term planning, ensuring that SodaStream’s new office remains flexible, agile, and aligned with their evolving business needs.

Key Takeaway

A thoughtful workplace strategy informs the design of the office to prioritize employee’s feedback and integrate sustainable, flexible, and technology-driven solutions to create  dynamic environments that support collaboration, enhance productivity, and adapt for future change.
